Want a “true beauty and goodness” makeover? There are some resources in the Bold Street Reading Room!

Menton of Christian Science has graced two published items that appeared in Merseyside newspapers in the past couple of days…

“Discover Bold Street.” is the headline in the Midweek Visitor, a Merseyside newspaper.  Among the attractions?  “There’s loads more for you to discover on Bold Street including a Christian Science Reading Room and BS Motorcycles…So for a fantastic range of shops and services, offering you something just that little bit different from Southport’s other shopping areas, head for Bold Street the next time you’re in the town centre.”

Meanwhile, our Merseyside Committee on Publication – Irene Hall – had the following Thought for the Day published as her weekly offering to the people of Liverpool via the Liverpool Daily Post:

WHEN Michelangelo was asked how he had sculpted his statue of David, he replied “I took away everything that wasn’t David”.

That startling artistic statement provokes further spiritual insight. We can mentally “take away” whatever is obscuring the true beauty and goodness of ourselves and others. The Bible says we are “made in the image and likeness of God”.

We don’t have to re-create this. We just have to remove the “clutter” obscuring it. We have God’s Love-derived tools to do this – such as compassion, patience, empathy, forgiveness.

Mary Baker Eddy, who founded Christian Science, wrote of the importance of what we’re seeing and living out. “We must form perfect models in thought and look at them continually, or we shall never carve them out in grand and noble lives.”

Bold Street, SouthportIt follows that if you would like to remove “whatever is obscuring the true beauty and goodness of [yourself] and others” and you are in the Southport area, head down to Bold Street and you will find some spiritual ideas that can help you achieve that goal! 🙂

And in case you are nowhere near Southport, here is a listing for all UK Reading Rooms.

Tony and Irene, this thought was just what I needed tonight – especially the way it’s illustrated in that quote from Michelangelo. Thank you!!
