Good vibes about the Christian Science Center in City of Boston press release

The office of Boston’s Mayor has posted a positive item on his   website called Mayor Menino Announces Christian Science Church Complex Awarded Landmark Designation by Boston Landmarks Commission.

The article includes the following “good vibes” about the site known to Christian Scientists worldwide as the home of The Mother Church.

“The Christian Science Church has been a committed steward of this heavily visited Boston site…” – Mayor Menino

“It is notable that this is the first designation by the BLC that includes prominent work by living contemporary designers…” Susan Pranger, Chair of the Boston Landmarks Commission (BLC).

“The outpouring of support for this designation shows how positively the public feels about the Christian Science Center,” Sarah D. Kelly, Executive Director of the Boston Preservation Alliance.

“The Christian Science Center is one of the most prominent and successful modern urban complexes in the world,” said David Fixler, President of the New England Chapter of Documentation and Conservation of the Modern Movement.

The Press Release also included a comment by Michael Pabst, from The Christian Science Board of Directors:

“For over a century, the church has been a part of the history of Boston and contributed to this city’s beauty, inspiration and progress. We look forward to continuing to improve the Christian Science Plaza and to providing places for quiet contemplation and active enjoyment for the public (at the site).”

Here is a photo I took of the Christian Science Center (“Centre” to us Brits!) during one of those more “quiet contemplation” moments, on a trip there last year.

I write on spirituality and health for a diversity of online media outlets, from my perspective as a Christian Science practitioner. I have been published by the Independent, the Washington Post, the Guardian, E-Hospice, MindBodyGreen and The Christian Science Monitor and I post regularly on the Huffington Post UK and BuzzFeed. In addition to writing and broadcast appearances I enjoy engaging with journalists, academics, health professionals and government officials about the possibilities for improving health outcomes through a greater emphasis on spirituality in healthcare and social care. I've also greatly valued the many opportunities I have had to travel globally for my church and to meet people around the world. My wife Jenny and I spent 10 years in Boston, USA, before returning to London in 2002, to take on a role as the media and legislative liaison for Christian Science in the UK and the Republic of Ireland. I studied at the University of Surrey earning a BSc Hons Degree in Modern Mathematics before the impact of spirituality on health caught my attention and re-shaped my career.

It’s “Centre” to us Aussies, too, Tony… and whichever way we spell it, that’s great news and an excellent photo! :)
