Individualising the Desmond Tutu response to state evil – “Get Inspired Project!” includes an interview with a Christian Scientist.

The “Get Inspired Project” was launched last year by Toni Reece, President of The PEOPLE Academy, Inc. It is a year-long commitment to “collect all of the amazing stories of how people inspire others and what they need to be inspired themselves” – and that collection has been amassing for eleven months on the website: getinspiredproject.com. These are not necessarily interviews with celebrities, but in many cases with ordinary people who someone, somewhere has said inspires them.

Someone, somewhere – a mutually respected colleague who is not a Christian Scientist – kindly said that to Toni Reece about me, so I was graciously invited to contribute a 15 minute interview on how I seek inspiration and share it – as a Christian Science practitioner, Committee on Publication, and contributor to the Christian Science periodicals.

So if you want to hear how prophetic words spoken by Archbishop Desmond Tutu can throw some light on the practice of Christian Science, the results of my interview with Toni Reece can be heard and/or read as Day 336.

I write on spirituality and health for a diversity of online media outlets, from my perspective as a Christian Science practitioner. I have been published by the Independent, the Washington Post, the Guardian, E-Hospice, MindBodyGreen and The Christian Science Monitor and I post regularly on the Huffington Post UK and BuzzFeed. In addition to writing and broadcast appearances I enjoy engaging with journalists, academics, health professionals and government officials about the possibilities for improving health outcomes through a greater emphasis on spirituality in healthcare and social care. I've also greatly valued the many opportunities I have had to travel globally for my church and to meet people around the world. My wife Jenny and I spent 10 years in Boston, USA, before returning to London in 2002, to take on a role as the media and legislative liaison for Christian Science in the UK and the Republic of Ireland. I studied at the University of Surrey earning a BSc Hons Degree in Modern Mathematics before the impact of spirituality on health caught my attention and re-shaped my career.

Thank you, Tony. I loved the quote and how you shared the connection to C hristian Science. I’ve already shared it and talked about it with many people!
